Winter 24 Update

ILB – Winter 24 Update

Coaching
After a period of uncertainty the Irish Bowls Coaching Association met in Q4 2024 to formulate their medium term plans for coaching on the island of Ireland. More meetings are scheduled in November 24 after which further updates will be provided.

In conjunction with this and in response to feedback from Clubs, the ILB is seeking applications for the voluntary role of Coaching Development Officer. The purpose of this voluntary role is to design, implement and manage a high-quality coaching
programme for Irish Lawn Bowls (ILB). The role has been advertised on a number of forums – closing date is 30 November 24 for expressions of interest.

Website
The new ILB website is a one stop shop for all ILB General information, news items, documentation , fixtures and results, all showing the latest updates. Over the coming months we will be adding more content covering every aspect of bowling in Ireland and beyond. Every club now has its own dedicated promotional page and a “Noticeboard” which can be updated as by your Club Secretary, and linked back to your Clubs website. We also have live links to international events. So keep an eye on the “Newsbites” and “useful links” pages on our website.

If your club is hosting a live online event let us know and we may be able to link into it for you.

Winter League Tables
Following an initial transition period during the summer leagues, an updated solution has been implemented in conjunction with the new ILB Webmaster. This allows for league tables to be updated as results are entered. Feedback suggests that the website is much more user friendly and winter league results are being uploaded correctly.
The League Secretary is endeavouring to update within 24hrs of games being concluded. It is intended for this solution to be rolled out to better facilitate the Summer Leagues.

Indoor Bowling Stadium
Following a number of engagements with Sport Ireland over the past 12 months, ILB Management has been invited to attend a meeting with the Sport Ireland Project Team in Q4 24 to discuss participation in the development of a multi-sport stadium. Further updates will be provided as this exciting project progresses.

As part of this programme, FutureNeuro are hosting a ‘My Moving Brain :Community Connect Event’ in Dublin on the 16th November from 1.30pm – 5pm in Blackrock College, Blackrock. This is a free event and aims to open up conversations about brain health and wellness to make sport more accessible.  For more information or to register your free place visithttps://www.eventbrite.ie/e/my-moving-brain-community-connect-event-in-dublin-tickets-1037685484217

This event is relevant to families impacted by brain conditions, National Governing Bodies of Sport, coaches, volunteers, disabilities services, schools, anyone with an interest in the area and we encourage everyone to join this important conversation.

At FutureNeuro, our vision is to change the journey for people impacted by brain conditions through the delivery of world-leading research into a range of neurological conditions including the epilepsies, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease and neuropsychiatric conditions.

The event will feature inspirational speakers who will discuss how brain conditions can affect participation in sport, share their lived experiences managing these conditions, and offer practical tips to promote and encourage participation in different sports. Attendees will also have the chance to engage with an expert panel, ask questions, and discuss brain health and sports inclusion for the benefit of the community.

Additionally, a parallel session will offer fun, interactive science activities to explore FutureNeuro brain research, including extracting DNA from bananas and examining brain waves. Participants can also enjoy “come and try” taster sports sessions for all ages and abilities, provided by local sports clubs, featuring rugby, tennis, archery, and ultimate frisbee.

Your input is invaluable and will help make a difference for people living with brain conditions across the community.  We hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you in Dublin!

Best wishes,

The My Moving Brain Team

New Website

Welcome to your new ILB website

A huge “Thank You” to Mike Brophy for all the hard work over the years keeping us all up to date with News and Views and controlling the background gremlins in the website. Mike has now retired and passed the reins over to me.

We decided on a fresh start and a new look to your website, hopefully streamlining information retrieval and better presentation of Fixtures and Results.

I Look forward, with your help, to develop the website as an information portal for all things Bowling. There may be a few glitches along the way, so bear with us as systems are developed and enhanced.

Regards
