A little about ourselves:

Irish Lawn Bowls (ILB) was formed in March 2023 following a merger of the Bowling League of Ireland (BLI) and the Ladies Bowling League of Ireland (LBLI) and is recognised by Sport Ireland as the National Governing Body for the sport of lawn bowling in the Republic of Ireland.

“Lawn Bowling is an all-island sport and  the ILB is one of three organisations affiliated to the overall governing body, the  Irish Bowling Association (IBA)

Lawn Bowls has a long and proud history in Ireland, with the first Club  being formed at the end of the 19th Century.  After the formation of the Kenilworth Bowling Club in 1892, a number of Clubs were established in the following decades – Railway Union in 1904, Blackrock in 1906 and Leinster in 1913.

Participation numbers have been increasing post-Covid and there are currently around 30 Clubs affiliated to the ILB serving almost two thousand members.  ILB member Clubs are mostly located in the greater Dublin area including Wicklow, Meath and Kildare along with Clubs in Cork, Sligo, Waterford and Wexford.   There are also a number of new lawn bowling facilities across the country – mainly located in provincial towns. Clubs play on a mixture of traditional grass surfaces while the remainder have artificial or synthetic surfaces with one Club (Kenilworth BC) having both.  Many of the Clubs are attached to other sporting facilities like tennis or rugby clubs or leisure complexes.

Lawn Bowls truly is a sport for all.  It is an all-year round sport with a number of dimensions including elite competitive, locally competitive and social outlet, the later having a key role to play in keeping  participants active in their post-retirement years.”
